New Euretina Congress Programme Puts Spotlight on Paediatric Retina Care.

WSPOS X EURETINA Paediatric Retina Day, a one-day programme bringing together experts in paediatric ophthalmology and retina disease, will be debuting at the 26th Euretina Congress. Taking place on Saturday and open to attendance by all delegates, this collaboration between Euretina and the World Society of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (WSPOS) is designed to advance the care of children with retinal conditions on a global stage.

Ken Nischal, MD, Division Chief, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus, and Adult Motility Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a founding member of WSPOS and sits on its WSPOS Executive Bureau. He says, “WSPOS is a global organisation dedicated to advancing paediatric ophthalmology through education, research, advocacy, and international collaboration to prevent and treat childhood blindness. By bringing together paediatric ophthalmology and retina subspecialists, WSPOS × EURETINA Paediatric Retina Day aims to foster interdisciplinary learning and improve outcomes for children with retinal disorders.”

Dr Nischal observes that such cross-collaborative meetings involving paediatric ophthalmologists and retina specialists are highly beneficial for both providers and patients. “Many paediatric retinal conditions require expertise spanning multiple subspecialties. Collaboration between WSPOS and EURETINA brings value for enabling innovative treatment approaches along with more holistic care and earlier diagnosis,” he says. “The greatest challenges in paediatric retina remain delayed recognition and unequal access to specialised care worldwide. These issues can be addressed through global partnerships along with improved screening, education, and equitable healthcare delivery.

The WSPOS X EURETINA programme is divided into five sessions  across the entire day, where attendees will gain practical insights into current advances in paediatric retinal disease, emerging therapies, multidisciplinary management strategies, and opportunities for future collaboration. Session topics include paediatric medical retina and inherited retinal diseases, paediatric retinal surgery, retinopathy of prematurity, and innovations. A 1-hour session devoted to free paper presentations is also part of the daylong programme.

WSPOS X EURETINA Paediatric Retina Day takes place on Saturday, 3 October in Hall A, Room 4. It begins at 09:00 and concludes at 17:45.
