The Young Retina Specialists (YOURS) Day has become a central feature of the EURETINA Congress in recent years, offering an original mix of high-quality science, education and entertainment.
This year’s programme in Hamburg aims to continue that proud tradition and celebrate the return of in-person meetings with a rich and varied selection of stimulating presentations and lively debate.
Taking place on Friday 2 September, the YOURS programme this year features a symposium, a science slam, a mystery cases session and a keynote Ophthalmologica lecture.
“We have a great mix of speakers from all over Europe and beyond”, said Chantal Dysli MD, PhD, YOURS Committee Member. “They range from enthusiastic residents to experienced clinicians and researchers. A special highlight will be the Ophthalmologica lecture given by Enrico Borrelli from Italy. I am really looking forward to his presentation on retinal imaging,” she said.
Although the EURETINA virtual meeting last year was deemed a great success, Dr Dysli said that there is no substitute for a live Congress in terms of atmosphere and interaction.
“We are very happy that the meeting is being held in person again. For our members, it is very important to exchange directly and get in contact with other EURETINA members from all over Europe. Although the younger generation is very well connected digitally nowadays, the personal contacts at such a great meeting cannot be replaced,” she said.
For this year’s event in Hamburg, Dr Dysli said that the goal is to try to offer a programme which caters for all tastes and covers a broad spectrum of the latest ground-breaking research in the field of retina.
“The science based YOURS Symposium enables experienced researchers to present their research projects providing insight into the most recent knowledge and developments in the field of ophthalmology. We have a Mystery Cases session which addresses clinical experience and challenges the best skilled clinical experts. The Science Slam provides a platform for young researchers to present their research results in the most entertaining way you have ever seen,” she said.
In addition, the YOURS programme this year will also offer an exam preparation course for all age groups geared towards the FEBO-Subspecialty EURETINA Exam, scheduled to be held for the first time in 2023.
“The course will include some of the most experienced experts in their field as speakers and will provide some excellent pointers and groundwork for the FEBOS-EURETINA Exam,” said Dr Dysli.
And once the serious work is over, delegates will have the chance to relax and network in a more informal manner at a special YOURS lunchtime gathering as well as the first EURETINA Congress Party on Saturday night on board the Cap San Diego Museum Ship docked in Hamburg harbour.
