Applications open November 27, 2025 – Are you ready?
Are you a qualified retina specialist ready to validate your subspecialty expertise?
Are you prepared to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and clinical competence across the full scope of retinal medicine?
The FEBOS-R (Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology Subspecialist in Retina) is designed to certify competence at the subspecialist level – recognising those whose knowledge, judgment, and clinical skills meet the high standards expected of a dedicated retina specialist.
If you’re committed to retinal medicine, this is your opportunity to prove it.
Who is it for?
The FEBOS-R is aimed at qualified ophthalmologists who have specialised in retina and are ready to demonstrate their subspecialty competence through rigorous examination.
To apply, you must:
- Be fully qualified and licensed to practise without restriction as an ophthalmologist (registration proof required)
- Have passed a boards-level exam (e.g. FEBO diploma, national boards exam in ophthalmology, etc.)
- Have completed either:
- A two-year fellowship in retina after your ophthalmology qualification, or
- Two years’ equivalent of full-time retina practice
Why take it?
Those who achieve FEBOS-R status join a recognised network of certified retina subspecialists across Europe. Passing demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and competence across AMD, CSC, Imaging, Diabetes & Vascular Diseases, Uveitis, IRDs, Tumours, Myopia and Vitreoretinal Surgery.
Employers, peers, and patients will recognise your FEBOS-R certification as validation of your subspecialty expertise and commitment to maintaining high clinical standards.
