World Retina Day provides a platform for international collaboration among clinicians and researchers in the field. That concept was clearly on display at the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS) World Retina Day session on Saturday afternoon where an international group of renowned retina specialists provided updates on cutting edge treatments. 

Presentations given during session included some providing information with direct clinical application for the management of patients with diabetic eye disease and others with potential future implications.

Delegates attending the session on non-neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) on Saturday morning heard information that has important relevance for researchers and clinicians as treatments for geographic atrophy (GA) have become available and others are emerging.

Delegates attending the Saturday morning keynote lecture on diversity heard a talk that was scientific but differed from the talks that are typically heard at Euretina, said Prof Anat Loewenstein as she invited Baroness Susan Greenfield to the podium to speak about the intriguing subject of the neuroscience of individuality. 

Baroness Greenfield will present the Diversity Keynote Lecture at 09:00 in room 116/117 on Saturday, 21 September.

Organised by EURETINA as a biennial event, World Retina Day (Saturday 21st September) serves as a platform for international collaboration, where retina specialists, other ophthalmologists and healthcare professionals, and researchers working in a variety of settings  and coming from around the world gather to share insights and hear from leading experts in the field. 

At the General Assembly meeting at the 23rd EURETINA Congress in October, 2023, Prof Anat Loewenstein, MD, MHA (Israel) was elected as President-Elect of the society by unanimous decision of the EURETINA Board. In the spring of this year, she took on the position of president early, following the sudden tragic passing of Prof Ramin Tadayoni. 

Ophthalmologica Award lecturer focuses on what patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) want to know and how studies that elucidate best evidence help answer common questions and support guideline development.

Kreissig Award lecturer presents highlights of his career as a retinal surgeon, beginning by explaining his motivation for choosing the field and then reviewing major findings from research relating to retinal detachment.

Gisbert Richard lecturer reviews findings from studies using the Euretina/BEAVRS database, provides perspectives on their relevance, and offers a glimpse into the future use of artificial intelligence
